Mission: Ballynamony

Ivan had not been onboard the Vindicator long, however he was getting to know the ship quite well. He had not formally met the XO yet, however he decided now would probably be a good time, before they set off on their next assignment. He was currently stood in his quarters, just having completed a quick walk around Engineering. Ivan tapped his commbadge. "Lieutenant Petrov to Commander Dahe'el, would you be available to meet me?" He asked, waiting for a reply.

With his office back to the usual environmental settings, Almar had a stream of crew coming and going to report in for duty, he was also still waiting for their new Chief Engineer to attend, a meeting that the Cardassian would not put off for anything, he was wanting mainly to size up the man or woman that would be responsible for the care of the ship he had poured his heart and soul into.

The disappointment, or was it relief, came when one of the petty officers bought him a padd detailing the unknown whereabouts of their supposed new Chief, it was at this moment that another officer on his list of required meetings came over the comm and asked him if he was free. "Commander Dahe'el, yes, Lieutenant, I'm free for the moment, make your way to my office and let them know I'm expecting you." he responded with a brief smile as he stood from behind the mountain of padds and strode over to the replicator to retrieve his third coffee of the day.

Ivan stepped into his bathroom and gave himself a quick look in the mirror, making sure he looked presentable, and then, satisfied, headed out of his quarters towards the turbolift. He was nervous about this meeting, as he knew the XO had been Chief Engineer aboard the Vindicator, and knew that he would be keeping a close eye on the department, and its members. He stepped into the turbolift and tapped the console on the wall to take him to Deck 1. He didn't like using the voice commands on starships, as he'd had many problems with them before.

Shortly after, the turbolift arrived at Deck 1, and he stepped forwards, the doors parting open for him. As he exited the turbolift he turned to his left, towards the XO's ready room, where surely enough there was a member of Security waiting outside. He walked over and handed over a PADD showing he had been asked to come here. "Lieutenant Petrov to see Commander Dahe'el, he should be expecting me." He said, smiling slightly at the young Ensign. The Ensign didn't respond to him, merely handing back the PADD, and stepping aside to allow Ivan through. Ivan walked upto the door and pressed the buzzer, and waited patiently.

"Enter," Almar replied, remaining seated behind his desk with the stack shoved to one side so he could actually see the door as it opened, "Lieutenant Petrov I presume?"

"Yes sir, Lieutenant Ivan Petrov, at your service." He said, as he walked through the door, which quickly shut again behind him.

"Please, take a seat," the Cardassian replied with a slight smile as he removed himself from behind the desk and headed over to the replicator, mug in hand. "Can I get you anything?" he offered as he placed the mug down and replicated himself a fresh mug of coffee.

"I suppose Vodka is off limits?" He asked, chuckling mainly to himself. "Just a Russian Mint Tea, please, no sugar." He smiled, taking a seat across the desk, looking around at all the PADDs piled up. "Busy day?" He asked.

A laugh emanated from deep inside the throat of Almar as he repeated the order to the replicator, he picked up the cup that was produced and strode over to the young Lieutenant and offered it, "While Vodka would be available, I'm afraid it would have to be synthahol while on duty and yes, I've had a pretty busy week, all told."

"Of course. And nothing you can't handle i'm sure! I have my transfer details here." Ivan said, handing over the PADD he'd carried into the office.

"So," Almar began as he accepted the padd that was had been offered to him, "Lieutenant Ivan Petrov, it has you listed here as an Engineer, well...," he paused for a moment, partly for effect and partly to arrange the next sentence in his mind correctly, "I have good news and bad news for you Lieutenant."

"Bad news sir?" He asked, surprised by the comment. He didn't like the sound of bad news one bit. He just hoped the issue wasn't his transfer orders. He'd been stuck on a starbase for the last 6 years, and didn't really want to be going back there. It held many bad memories for him.

"It would seem that I'm going to have to change your position listing on our roster," the Cardassian continued, ignoring the surprise emanating from the Russian before him, "The good news is that you're remaining in Engineering," he added before a sly smile crossed his lips, "The bad news is that you're being assigned as our Acting Chief Engineer, currently our replacement has failed to report for duty and we've not been able to locate him for some time, hes also not answering our communications."

Ivan breathed a large sigh of relief. "When you said bad news I thought you meant BAD news. I would be more than happy to Act as Chief Engineer for this fine ship here. Any tips?" He asked, hinting at his knowledge of Almar's experience in the position.

"Just one," Almar replied as a serious look struck down his face, his tone turned dark as he continued, "Break anything and I'll hold you responsible." he added before allowing himself to laugh as he returned to the desk and thumbed through the transfer orders, making the necessary changes to them and resubmitting them with his authorisation, "In all seriousness though, I built this ship from the ground up and I will be watching like a hawk, she's built to be rugged and reliable, but like any great creation she's sensitive to subtle changes."

"So don't break anything, got it. When shall I start?" He asked, smiling at his sudden and surprising change of position.

"Immediately, should you wish," Almar replied with a smile and a nod as he handed the padd back across the desk, "While we're still in dock and still taking on staff, you'll find that there are no duty rotas drawn up." he added as he took a sip of his coffee, "I'll expect your first one on my desk no later than 12 hours before we launch."

Ivan nodded. "I'll get that down to you as soon as I've had a look around Engineering. Anything that needs doing as a matter of urgency?" He asked.

"You'll find a list as long as your arm on the desk in your office," the Cardassian stated quickly, "We've got no transporters, we're missing some internal bulkheads and some replicators in the lower decks, its been a fight with the quartermaster on the base to get to where we are but things just aren't available at the moment."

"I'm sure we'll find stuff to make do with...I'd better get to work..." Ivan said as he stood and reached across the desk to shake the Commanders hand.

Almar accepted the hand and shook it firmly, on the release he smiled and gave a quick nod, "Welcome to the Vindicator, Lieutenant, don't break my ship."

"Thank you Commander, and I will try not to break anything." Ivan said, before turning towards the door and leaving the XO's Office. He was going to enjoy working aboard this ship, he just had to try not to mess anything up.
